I'm pretty sure he was confused... I've never seen even a picture of a 544 with boards... Though, it would look cool, and maybe a previous owner of his car cobbled something together using VW bug running boards or something....

Definitely not stock though, and I'm pretty sure there was no such option. S'pose I could be wrong though.
