project 145...SU carb update, and steering trouble question. 140-160 1970

Mmmmkay...first I'll mention the carb jetting progress first mentioned a week or so ago. I called Ztherapy today to get their opinion... See, they sell oversized jets (or nozzles as they call them). As y'alls told me, the fella there advised against the oversized jets, figuring I had the wrong needles. He wouldn't even let me buy new needles without knowing what was in there to start.

I have to say, these folks at ztherapy are great!

So, I pulled the tops off carbs and grabbed a needle out. KA is what it said on the side. Looked awful fat to me. So I scared up a pair of carbs I have that came off a late '50s Jag (3.4 inline 6), and pulled the needles out of it for a looksee. SM I think they are. Definitely a bit more tapered and thinner profile. Noticable difference by eye. Same length, and same sized jet...so in the volvo went them needles.

Jeez...I've swapped needles around before, but never..never..never have I noticed much (if any) difference. But this time...oh boy.

Project 145 is balls fast. I've driven some pretty spiffed up 544, 120, 1800 and 140 series cars, and now....this heavy old 145 claims to be the quickest of them all. So far. I'm amazed.

So anyhow. I've got this other issue with the steering I've been trying to sort out. I'll start it in a new post immediately following this one... please help with it if you can...

Thanks,
matt
