Loud clack in cylinder head (b230) 200

1988 240 DL SW
193K non-turbo

Loud clack in top area of cylinder head at #1 cylinder....clack inc. & dec. with rpm.... when #1 fuel inj. wiring is disconnected, clack is random and is random at inc. & dec. or rpms.
Have some white smoke and some condensation but no odor of antifreeze...condensation is cool to the touch too.
The motor idles smooth (less the noise)on all cylinders; Haven't check the compression with a guage (I have by the hand method....over the spark plug hole and it feels ok)

My questions....

Can you have preignition in 1 cylinder? If this is the problem.
Can the fuel inj. or the fuel inj. wiring for 1 be bad?
Could there be a bad valve in the head?
Could there be a small head gasket leak?

Thanks for any input
