Engine Quits - Where to go from here? 200 1987

My daughter's 240 wagon with 130K and regular proactive maintenance quit on her while she was driving 30 mph on a country road, leaving her stranded there last evening ("My tank has never quit on me" - It did!). The battery cranks the starter but then nothing happens. The white fuel pump relay was replaced about 6 months ago. The tow truck driver mentioned "no fuel; fuel pump; injector".
We had it towed home. What is a logical diagnostic sequence that brick experts would recommend to fix this?
What is the normal life expectancy of stock fuel pump? Would you replace it at a certain mileage the way we replace water pump to avoid sudden death?
Thanks for any advice.
