Windshield replacement 700 1988

So the windshield replacer botched the job and left my trim loose because he used the old, broken clips.
I made him come back to discuss the situation with me.
He gave me this story about not having to remove the bottom trim to replace the glass. That they undid the wipers and unbolted the sheet metal between the hood and the glass, and slid this forward.
Has anyone ever heard of such a thing?
I did show him that it was obvious that no one had disturbed the bolts holding this piece on, so no one had done what he described.
Anyway, is this guy for real, or does he really think I'm that naive?
