245 Tyre Wear? 200 1986

OK.. its my 86 245 (194K Kms- Australia)
Both front tyres are worn unevenly to the extent that the wear marks are comining up on the outsides (10-20% left estimated) and the insides are at about 50%, I have rotated them but the rears now have only 20% remaining and I do not feel they are a good brand. So I am planning to get 4 new shoes. The car pulls to the right slightly, I have one bad ball joint and a slow speed clunk from the front end (particularly when reversing and turning out of a parking space, often with a rythmic lurching at full lock).

Forget tyre brand recommendations, many are different here in OZ and it has been regularly done to death on the BB. Here is my question, what should I attack first?... Ball Joint? What do I need to know about alignment when I take it to the shop? what could be causing the rythmic lurching at full lock?

Looking forward to some grip. BB is much appreciated.
