Speedometer and fan issues

New to board and have done brief search and need help. (1) In attempting to fix fan noise (issue 2 below) I decided to pull instrument cluster to have look-see at broken odometer. In replacing, the red/white wire (not connected prior to disassembly and now known to be tachometer wire (which I don't have on car)) was accidentally hooked up to blue wire connection during reassembly. Now speedometer reads at max (120 mph) when car is on and 0 when off. Have I done irreparable harm or is there a fix?

(2) Blower motor was inspected from top side (through inspection mirror stuck in dash outlets with louvers and vent tubing removed) and I could visualize blades without problem noted. Fan sounds like something has been "sucked into intake" and I also checked behind blower at firewall tranny tunnel area and could not see evidence of any obstruction but did not note where blower motor intake assembly is located. Can anyone tell me where this is so that I can inspect fan from this end and possibly remove obstruction (if there is one and not blower motor pending failure).

All help is much appreciated.
