Brakes 'n stuff 120-130

Hi,

I'm starting an overhaul of my brakes after seeing what came out when I changed the brake fluid yesterday - its a single circuit system so why take chances? I had a look at the Haynes manual but I'm not sure that the description of overhauling the calipers is detailed enough - I'd like at least one picture to go with the steps outlined. I was wondering if anyone can recommend an alternative book (with ISBN number if possible) that I could get?

While I had the drums off I noticed that one of the brake shoes (the rear shoe on the drivers side) had chunks missing from the middle of the lining - the front shoe on that wheel is fine though the cylinder is leaking slightly. It hasn't contaminated the drum or linings yet. Do those missing chunks indicate a problem that I should be aware of?

The linings on all shoes are just over 4mm thick. How thin can they be allowed go before replacement is necessary?

Also, on another subject - is there a better way of getting old underseal off other than by chipping away at it?

Thanks in advance,

Aidan
