exhaust system two mufflers on 240 200 1986

Richard's proposal is a good one. If you intend to remain stock, as I have on my succesion of 240's, I recommend a total cat-back system replacement.

The bend into the rear muffler gives out because it's a moisture collecting point and 2 to 4 miles drives morning and evening will kill it in a year. Then the rest of the system is marginal.

Get a system from VPI or FPCgroton or some other advertiser. Drop the old system off in one piece, and loosly assemble the new one. Put the new system on and tighten things up gradually. You will need a new cat gasket, some PB'Laster, and a way to raise the car safely. I drive the RF and RR wheels up on the ramps I usually use for oil changes.

Then you can take apart the old system at your leisure, although that is not what I consider a leisure activity.

Good Luck,

Bob
