Idle should be around 750, and around 950 with the A/C on. 3000 downshift sounds about right, maybe a little high. 3500 also is correct @ 80 mph. I run about 3000 @ 70 mph in my '82. I just saw a post about finishes on gauges... just within the past couple of days, I think the subject was 'large tach' or something like that. Good Luck.
