Slop in gear-selector 200 1987

JP Just had a similar problem on my '86 240,the pin for the switch would not engage the switch because the shift selector had a lot of side to side movement. This was being caused by loose and missing bolts that hold the selector "can" to the structure. If you look from underneath at the selector assembley which is right above the drive shaft, there should be 3 bolts(1 forward and 2 aft)that hold this assembly to structure. In my case the forward one was gone and aft ones were loose, I tightened the loose ones and this held until I got the third one from Volvo. The bolt heads are 11mm and if you need to get new bolts let me know I have the part number.I had to send a picture(fax)with the bolts drawn in, from one of my shop manuals to my parts guy so he could get me the correct bolts. I hope this helps. Dennis
