Heater blows kinda warm 700 1990

90 745 16v 150k old style knob and slides climate control.

Heater blows, but not nearly as hot as I would like. It takes about 25 - 30 min. to warm the car up. I have a new heater control valve that I haven't installed yet. I looked at the old one and it seems to actuate the valve as it should. I heard about flushing the heater core with drain cleaner or something a while back. Is this a good idea? What exactly should I use? Also, I bought the new heater valve because I saw some coolant clinging to a hose on the drivers side of the firewall and assumed it was the HCV leaking. Is this the likely source of the leak? I didn't see the HCV leaking but assumed it was actually leaking.

thanks

- Nate
