Front Strut shock removal advice needed on 85 240 200 1985

Hi guys,

My 240 popped a front strut shcock and the Haynes manual is not all that clear. It looks like I can get away with removing the three large nuts on the bottom for the ball joint assemly as well as the tie rod ball joint nut, and then lower the strut assembly enough to get the shock out. Will the brake lines allow this or do they need to be disconnected also? Any hints very helpful. I have an air compressor so top nut should not be a problem, and spring compressors are on the way from Harbor Freight. On one side the large weird nut (inside spring, on cannister under boot) is already loose, other side very tight - will channel locks work?

Thanks again for the advice, this board is great!

Dennis
