Spooks have awakened! 900 1996

I love the car but it seems like you fix one thing and something else goes bad.
As car accelerates whining noises begin, sometimes singular, other times in multiples, as many as four or so. The noise/noises sound like the wind howling. They increase in pitch as car accelerates, sometimes changing with transmission shifting, other times not. It started out as a singular noise and mechanic suggested a bushing on the drive shaft was going bad after I described it as sounding like an airliner taking off. Any thoughts or suggestions?
