200 no-start! 200 1990

Help!...I have narrowed my no start down to either the ignition ECU or the power stage.

There is a switching line from the ignition ECU that switches the power stage on/off which then powers the coil. One of the books calls for a fluctuating 0-2 volt reading during cranking.

I do not get this reading. I get more like less than 1/2 volt and little fluctuation. I took out the power stage, coil, coil wire and set it up on my bench with a 12 volt battery and a source of less than 3 volts to switch the power stage.

When I simulate on the bench, it produces a good spark to a spare volvo plug. The power stage required a very low voltage to switch and produce a spark, so I would imagine it is working properly.

I tried a different ignition ECU and it still would not provide enough switching voltage. Did I just get another bad ECU, or am I doing something wrong?

I have checked every input to the ECU that I can check. Everything seems to be in order. There are several connections between the ignition ECU and the FI ECU, but I dont know what kind of signals are supposed to be on those lines. Therefore, I really cant check them. FYI...I have checked every power and ground on every device and all are ok.

I hope someone can shed some light on this subject....

Thanks,
Anthony
