Scan Tech or ACD transfer pump? 200 1981

They didn't have a direct fit upper radiator hose for the I/C'd turbo (big deal), but the hose didn't feel anwhere as nicely constructed as the Volvo one it replaced.

The splash pan just has extremely poor fit (3-4 out of seven holes line up).

The ScanTech/Calorstat t-stat I installed failed pretty quickly.

I have a ScanTech t-belt tensioner bearing I've been meaning to install. It looks okay, but we'll see.

Um.. there was a thread about ScanTech in alt.autos.volvo, Dan Stern, of lighting faq fame had some fairly bad things to say as well (poor QC, etc).

There have also been at least a few postings to the board about the center support bearing (ScanTech v IPD brand).

The way I look at it is this. I'm happy with an aftermarket brand, if the following is true:

- it's cheap and easy to replace (like a t-stat, but I plan to go for a Wahler one)
- it's of OE or better quality
- it's not a critical part

Would you really want to muck around with a failed in-tank pump? I've got plenty of "aftermarket" parts installed. Bosch cap, Bougicord wires, Mann oil/air filters, Buss brand fuses, Sylvania light bulbs, Hepu water pump.. and I'll probably go with ScanTech for some non critical (valve cover, etc) gaskets. I'm just not too eager to experiment, especially when I can find a known aftermarket brand for a decent price..
