KEEP BREAKING TRANSMISSIONS 700 1985

As has already been suggested, you may (for the time being) want to put in a weaker clutch. It's my understanding that the clutch will act like a fuse, and slip under too much torque.. preventing the transmission from being fried.

You may also want to consider an automatic transmission. Supposedly they can handle a bit more power, and you can surely beef up the internals a bit. Look at Dave Barton's monster B26FT.
