Rear Bushing Job - DONE! 200

Thanks to this website, and the Homebrew bushing tool page, I replaced all 10 rear bushings on my 245 in-house baby! A good learning experience in all. Oddly, the big trailing arm bushings turned out to be the easiest to replace. I made the tool with the plumbing parts prescribed. I found some Grade 5 threaded rod that I used in lieu of the hard to find 8.5" bolt. Cut the rod at 9.5" Tip - when making the pusher die, make sure to square off the end of the pusher die so it presses nice and flat against the bushing end. PB Blaster, and a rap with the 3 pounder when things got tough, and they were out! Reinstall was cake.

The other bushings were, to put it nicely, a bit more difficult. I bought a 12T shop press - $99 special from Grizzly Imports (the weld quality is laughable but it did the job). Made some drivers with some 1", 1.25" and 1.5" pipe nipples (ends cut off and squared). Also used some sockets that I squared the ends on. Let me just say that there is no better sound than the loud bang that the bushing makes when it finally lets loose under 12 tons of pressure.

Tools I found real helpful for this project were: 4.5" angle grinder for making die, bench grinder for making die and squaring, 12T press, drill press to drill 1/2" hole in die, sawz-all to cut the sleeve in half.
