240GL turn signal problems turned into no-start 200 1984

I was driving along a week or so ago and upon using my left turn signal, the seatbelt warning light lit, the turn signal did not, and there sounded to be a relay going crazy in the dash. It did it several times, and after unplugging and replugging the driver/passanger seatbelts the problem dissapeared.
While driving today, the problem reoccured a few blocks away from my destination. I got there, stopped, and noticed that not only the turn signals died, but the seatbelt light didn't come on, and the relay I heard all the other times was silent. Unplugging and replugging the seatbelts didn't help, so I killed the engine hoping that restarting it would fix the issue. The car now turns over just fine (albiet with the battery light lit - it's not charging), but it never fires and starts. Any ideas?

Notes: gas level is fine, battery's fine, alternator brushes are fine (replaced recently), fuses all appear to be fine (no chance to test them yet), and the car's an automatic.
