Dumb Steering Rack Question 200 1986

Hey, everyone! Here goes: I've had my wagon for a about 4 months and the steering rack is on it's way out. I had been putting ATF in it almost everyday, it leaked more than a collander. The weather got pretty cold and the leaking seems to have (I know it's temporary) stopped. Here's the dumb question: Because of the cold weather would the viscosity of the ATF get thick enough to stop the leaking? I'm just perplexed, that's all.
Thanks for putting up with me as always!
