Odd driveability problem with 740T 700

I'm having a somewhat similar problem. Under low RPM high boost (high load) I get a bucking sensation and kind of rough running. Now, it doesn't matter if it's floored or part throttle, it only depends on load. I'm going to replace the fuel pressure regulator. I get puffs of black smoke when it bucks, and once in awhile the problem is there no matter what the load or RPM...always seems to calm down when I stop and idle for a bit. By the way, the car is a manual '89 740T.
