Why is this??.....alternator trivia question.. 200

I didn't notice this at the time but you know, the same thing happened to my Toyota Camry. I think streetangel21 is correct. My Camry on empty so I filled it up, only took $10- to do it. It didn't occur to me at the time that my laternator was about to not be useful any more. A few days and few hundred dollars later I have a new alternator and better gas mileage but, now, I don't think the mileage is any different, the car just likes 20 amps more the 40 amps. Oh the things I learn on this board.
