First off, this forum is great!
My turbo (Mitsu TD05) has some shaft play. Probably slightly more than the 1/16in someone said on the boards. I have oil in the hoses and intake manifold. No smoke, not really good boost. Barely noticable. I am considering getting a rebuild kit and tackling on my own. I'll look for a balancing shop for the shaft when it's complete. Anyone do this before?
Also, with the turbo out, I plan on changing the motor mounts(mine are hydraulic, but I could swear I saw after market solid rubber ones for this car on the 'net), the O rings on the oil filter adapter (what size are they?? I can't find them listed anywhere)
Since I expect better boost afterwards, I feel I should replace the head gasket. Good idea?
Should I just pull the engine out to gain better access? Should I consider replacing the oil pump?
In the past year, I have had a few problems that led to the replacement of the following: Alternator, Distributor, Ign Coil, Fuel pump & Filter, FPRelay, Radio Sup relay, Water Pump, Turbo hoses. I feel there's only a 'few' other things to change to make the engine more reliable. At least give better piece of mind.
Anyone care to share their views? I've read some excellent posts here and hope to gain even more knowledge from it...from all of you. Thanks again! (I do have an 'open' post regarding Turbo Boost - that investigation is prompting this post)
