air filter recommendation 200 1989

Car: 1989 245DL

Since getting the car, I have done all the "peace of mind" stuff. I've been thinking about checking and changing the air filter. In my old beloved 83 245GL workhorse, I simply installed an air filter from Pep Boys (some French brand, I believe). The job was pretty straight forward, but I have to admit it's a bitch trying to fit the air filter in the air box and trying to fit everything back in nicely. It's an easy DIY job otherwise. With my new precious baby, I want the best for her. I'm thinking of going to this nearby Volvo dealer and getting a Volvo air filter. Anyone know if Volvo brand is better than the generic after-market brands? Also, about the job itself. Is changing the air filter on my 89 245 the same as on my 83 245? Anything I need to check, change, or be careful when I do this job? I don't feel so daring in DIY jobs on this cream puff.
