Heated seat thermistats 200

I opened up my heated seats on my 87 245 gl, and found a bad thermistat in the drivers side heating element, and frayed wiring in the other heating element. I just figured I'd use butt connectors to cut out the thermistats all together. Is there anything bad about that? The heated seats are connected to a swtiched 12v source so there is no problem of leaving them on accidentally after parking the car and walking away. I hooked everything back up and they work wonderfully, and didn't get too hot after a twenty minute drive. Do the thermistats have some sort of resistance that is neccesary to the operation of the heating element circuit.
Thanks
Nick
