Obviously all the engine seals and gaskets that are easily accessed. On top of that, the transmission front torque converter seal.
Other than that, are you SURE you need to replace the engine? I mean... you could be right--it could be dead. But 108k is early. You could pull the head off of the one that's in there. If the #1 (usually) is making the noise (just move it around from the top end) it's piston slap. If it's the bottom end, the top end should be tight.
There's nothing wrong with replacing an engine if the old one is purely shot, but if not, why go through the extra thousand(s) in expense?
Again, you might be right on the money. But when you acquire a car, it's easy to assume the worst, when the P.O. might in fact have taken great care of the car. I've seen some REALLY nice cars at auction, with a little piston slap at 90k miles. Perfect body and interior. It isn't necessarily a reason for panic. That car sounds as if it was a short-tripper. It probably only saw occasional or very short distance use. Turbos don't always hold up well to that, even the later ones. Maybe it was smoking a little or something, so the turbo got replaced. There are a lot of shops that would love to make a few bucks for replacing a turbocharger.
Then again, if the 94 engine is really good, then you won't be out a lot of money on the project, because you'll be replacing the one that's in there with something that is THAT much better.
