switching tailgates on 240 station wagons 200 1983

I would liike to add a 3rd brakelight to the back of my 83 245. Would it be easier to just mount a light (like from a junkyard) or to replace the entire rear tailgate. I happen to have a spare (doesn't everyone??) 245 tailgate from an 86 245. Since I was planning to repaint the car (Artic White, BTW) a silver tailgate on a brown 245 is OK for a while. Or maybe keep the "Urban Assault" look permanently?
What about the wiring harnesses? I hear that there is a substantial difference between the 83 and 86 wiring for the tailgate.
Thanks in advance,
el RAidman
