Turbo Core 200 1983

In the process of replacing my turbo core. Removing the turbo/exhaust manifold was cake compared to getting to the core. I have all the short bolts out and the front part off and I have the long (rear) bolts loose but I can't get the two pieces apart. Is there a trick to getting the core to break loose or is my hammer too small? Any help is appreciated.

Also see some surface cracks on the inside of the part that mates to manifold, should I have these welded?

Thanks

Doug
