service and engine light on 200 1990

The 2 lights perform different functions. The service light is merely a fuction of so many miles rolled off on the speedo to tell you to get an oil change. It is reset by the mechanic when oil change is completed, low oil pressure will not trip this light as you have an oil pressure light for this purpose, nor will low oil pressure trip the engine light.

The engine light is turned on when a fault code is recorded and stored by the computer. This fault code can be retrived and will point you in a direction to diagnose the fault. See the 700/900 FAQ section for details on this subject as it applies to 200 series as well .
