Greetings All!!!
My UPS Gal sashsayed up the driveway today--clad in her dusky
brown shorts--and gave me a VERY pleasant surprise!!! HEY--all you
BMW-types stop sniggering!!!
If you care for an early-70's 164/140 with the blood-pressure
instrument-box, you are familiar with the two white plastic 'attaching
screws' that fasten the box to the dashboard. You know how age/heat/
stress can weaken the plastic to the point where the knurled knob
breaks away from the threaded shaft, rendering the whole shebang
useless (it cannot be successfully glued). I ordered a new screw
(PN 677448), expecting the same plastic item. Imagine my delight
when I tore open the package and found a piece made from SOLID BRASS!!!
A fine little example of the casting art. Somebody in Gothenburg
was using their brain--for a change!!! Sweet Jesus--how I wish that
a zillion other plastic doo-hickeys on our vintage cars would be
updated in metal!!! It's almost enough to make you think that
Volvo cares . . .
But--better order them now, before the Ford/Detroit bean-counting
anal-retentives get hip, and start screaming "BRASS??? DO YOU REALIZE
THE INCREMENTAL COST PER TEN-THOUSAND UNITS??? DELETE! DELETE! DELETE!
WHERE'S MY TAGAMET???" No offense--some of my best friends are
accounting majors . . .
Gary in Arizona--with two 164's.
