fuel pump woes... 200 1982

I have replaced both fuel pumps in my 82 240 GL. The main is still very loud... Is the regulator bad, causing the excessive noise?
Also, after replacing the main, I drove it home and the car stalled along the way. It felt like it ran out of gas. Started right up no problem.. Could it have just been an airbubble in the gas line or should I be worried about it.. Thanks!
