replacing voltage regulator BOSCH 1990 740 700

My car will not charge occasionally. A tap with wrench on back of voltage regulator will restore charging. I've purchased a new regulator, and I'm wondering how hard it is to put in. I've done this before, but it seems as though there should be an easier way to get the brushes to seat correctly.

It took me about 30-45 minutes to get the thing in on a similar car. The new longer brushes kept seeming to hang-up. Is there an easy way to get them out of the way, while I'm pushing it in?
