Installing aTachometer, need some help... 200 1978

I recently installed a tach in my 1980 242, The wires that everybody said would be there weren’t. I ran a wire from my coil through a hole in the firewall that some other wires or vacuum line (can’t remember which) This wire went to the center terminal on the tach. I connected to the positive terminal on the coil as I was instructed on brickboard. The tach still did not work, so I connected to the neg term and it worked! Good luck.
