what to do when the SERVICE reminder light comes on? 200 1989

Car is an 89 245DL

The orange SERVICE light came on today after starting my car. I didn't panick--or should I? I checked the owner's manual, and it says that that this light comes on every 5000 miles to remind the driver that service needs to be done. Is it just that, a "reminder" light and not a "something is wrong with the engine" (CHECK ENGINE)light? What service is it talking about? Also, it says that the light will go off after 2 minutes until reset by a tech. It did go off after 2 minutes, but it came back on the next start up and went off after 2 minutes. To turn this light off until the next 5000 miles, do I need to go to a Volvo tech or can I reset it myself?

In the meantime, is the SERVICE light something to be concerned about? Can I still drive the car until I find a convenient time to reset it? Thank you, Volvo gods.
