M-B vs Volvo 700

I currently drive a 1987 760T which is a great car mechanically. Every once in awhile I daydream about a new (used) euro sedan. I've narrowed choice to a mid to late 90's Volvo 960 versus an early to mid 90's M-B 300E which I understand is a great car too. price in Denver for each about 10-12K. I had an 82 M-B 300D turbo which was built like a watch but 8 degree weather froze up the diesel every winter so I got sick of it. Is the Volvo 960 straight 6 okay or should I stick with the 4 cyl turbo 940?
