Battery problem 700 1987

Hi, A co-worker of mine relayed a problem with his 740 and wanted to see what you guys think. A few months back he replaced his dead Volvo battery with one from Autozone. It then died a month later after the car was not driven for a week or so. He got a new battery. Died again. He took the car to a mechanic who tested the alternator and did not see any drain on the battery (dome light, etc.). Problem was not fixed as the battery would die if the car was left for longer than 2 days. He recently took the car to the dealer who traced it to the type of replacement battery he was using. Tech indicated that since his '87 740 still has a metal battery tray that a different battery was needed as the one he was sold would only work with a plastic tray. Has anybody ever heard of different batteries working better with plastic or metal trays? Thanks.
