Auto Trans Park Pawl Question 164 140-160

Does anyone know how big a job it is to repair or replace the park pawl in a 164 auto trans? Would like to know if it could be an external problem that can be repaired rather than tear down the trans to get to the internals. The wife is getting tired of hauling on the park brake and chocking the rear wheels like WWI bi-plane.lol
