Is it my AC knob or are all 240 AC knobs hard to turn off? 200 1989

Man I hate this freaking AC on/off switch design. Most cars you just press a button to turn the AC on and press again to turn it off. I hate this AC knob that Volvo designed for the 240. On my car, it is fairly easy to turn from "0" to the orange zone and from orange zone to the tapered off blue zone. BUT, it is a biatch to turn the knob to the "0"! Even worse, I think to really turn off the AC, the white line on the knob has to pass the "0" slightly a bit. I had the hardest time turning the knob to "0" today. Anyone have this problem?

BTW, when the AC is on, is it supposed to make a very light "sssssss" sound from the center vents? I rarely use the AC, but today I turned it on to test it and it. I thought the hissing type sound was a vacuum leak or something, so I turned and the "sssss" sound ended.
