Source for temp spare tire 700 1988

You could either find a 165-15 tire for it, which would be very close to the right size (these were standard tires on VW beetles and Volvo 122 and 140's) or you could just get one from a junkyard, in the trunk of any 740 or 940.
You could also get another standard sized tire and wheel and have a spare that you can just drive on, without the speed restrictions of a "Temp" spare. I use regular tires for my spares. In the 740 they are a little bit wide for the trunk well, but that's a minor inconvenience compared to restricting my speed to 50 mph. That's my opinion anyway.
I'm sure with a little looking you can turn up an unused 740/940 spare tire for only a few $$ from a wrecking yard. Usually they're happy to get rid of tires.
