another one bites the dust 140-160

My sons 142s came limping home today, didn't have the power to get up the driveway. It has developed a loud 'clatter' and is smoking a lot out the breather. Sounds like piston? We only put this motor in 3 months ago, it ran well in the '74 145. It was a B20E which we put twin strombergs on, it went very well for a while. We picked up a reconditioned short motor for $50 at the wreckers, will put that in with the B20E head but will have to live with the B20A cam in the new motor. Is it worth trying to swap cams without buying new lifters etc? My son is saving to buy one of those superchargers from 'Vintage Performance Developments' in Canada. We can get it here complete, ready to bolt on for $4000AU Is there anybody experienced with this setup and is it as good as it claims to be? Alternatively, does anybody in OZ (Tasmania) know of a hot B20 for sale? It could save us a lot of work. Cheers.
