Hole in back of cat? 200 1986

I changed the exhaust system on my wife's 245 last night. (I waited 'till the last possible minute to get started) I noticed a small hole about the size of an 8d nail on the back side of the catalytic converter. A small amount of air (exhaust) blows though. The hole looks intentional...Is it?

BTW - I ordered it through IPD and had it sitting in my garage for 4 months, dreading to start on the project. I Haven't tinkered with exhaust pipes in about 20 years (a 1976 Honda Civic, which was a bi-monthly event). I cannot believe how easily it all went together in less than 2 hours!
