Sounds good. So long as you're pulling it you should take teh time to do a full inspection and make sure everything is in good order. General checks are as follow:
1) Pull each relay in sequence and inspect both the socket (plastic) and the relay contacts for discoloration, melting, blackening, kinks, or other signs of overheating. Just make sure everything is in good order, and that the relay contacts all fit snugly into the relay board with little play. Pay specific attention to the front line of smaller relays since these carry some of the highest loads (along with the fuel relay).
- If they have play use fine needle nose pliers to crimp the appropriate female connector in the board
- If you find discoloration check for play or oxidation. You may have resistance and need to either replace teh relay or clean/replace teh female connector.
2) Inspect the harness from the underside. Pay specific attention to the contacts under the fuse board, as they have a tendency to become loose or worn where you can't see with the board in place. Pay specific attention to the main lighting fuse and the heater blower fuse.
- If you see discoloration clean the contacts and tighten things up in general per 1.
- If you see any serious wear do 1 and replace the fuse.
That single harness is a bigger PITA on these cars than just about anything else. Just a few months back my main lighting relay overeated and melted the socket under it. Had to pull the whole thing, replace the socket, replace teh female connectors, splice them in, etc. Volvo was the only source I could find for the "special" female connectors with the anti-pull tab... so annoying.
