Need input on cause of ground and harness burnout 700 1990

I have a 90 744-GLE B234F 16v 242k miles. The resent problem was that it would not start in very cold weather. Car was towed to a garage and I asked if the started/ingnition relay switch would have anything to do with it. I was told no and we went on to other checks such as with, ECT replacement, computer checked, resoldered just in case, distributor cap and rotor changed, oil, filter, spark plugs changed. Car now runs same as before. I took car home( less than 2 miles away) parked car. Next morning car would not even turn over. All dashboard lights were out except for seatbelt, and SRS lights would come on. Car towed to second garage and found main ground and harness burned out by firewall. Wires in dash were also fried. After replacing wiring, car would run and then would occasionally stall at lights. Rechecked and found starter / ignition relay switch showed an intermittent pattern which showed a defect. Was replaced with a new one and car now runs without issue in cold weather.

Problem: Would wiring as old as the car is, milage, Vermont winters (mind you, car was a Florida car for most of it's life)(Only in Vermont for last year)constant jumpstarting (only 1)cause all of this to happen? That is my question of could it have been something the first mechanic could have done to cause it?

Answer need fast if possible.
Thanks All
MLB
