What's with the switch under the accelerator pedal??? 700 1985

I can't figure it out, and the manual tells me nothing, yet there it is, attached to bottom of the pedal, and it surely can't be for the transmition, the cable controls the kickdown for that.

Anyone know what it does? or is it just some enrichment circut trigger or something for full throttle operation?
It kind of bugs me a bit, you have a nice smooth throttle action and then have that anoying click and extra effort required to give full throttle.

Oh and my car is a 85 760 Turbo, I have no idea if it's on other 700 series volvos.
