Problems with 'Control Pressure Regulator' 200 1981

Greetings Brickboard Crew:
Have a 1981 245 GLT 4 Speed + Overdrive that has served me faithfully, over 400 K miles. Lately I have been experiencing some problems which I am looking for some help with. After experiencing difficulty starting which I fixed by changing the accumulator in the gas line which did solve the problem of starting. However, I have been noticing a drop in mileage and as a result
I sought to lean the mixture out expecting to obtain some marginal increase in mileage instead I am experiencing a marginal decrease.

I am seeking your help in determining if I do need to replace the "control pressure regulator." How would a failed control pressure regulator affect mileage?? Where could I obtain one??? Are they rebuilt?? Am I barking up the wrong tree???
Any help would very much appreciated.

Thanks
Seemiya
