Tail Shaft Bushing Replacement 700 1990

At ~ 120,000 miles, the tailshaft bushing has developed significant play, leading to a fluid leak, plus slightly noisy at freeway speeds. What's involved in replacing the bushing and seal. I understand that IPD no longer loans-out the tool to extract it with the tail housing in place. Is it real involved to remove the housing, or is that really necessary.

BTW - The pinion seal has has been leaking very slightly for some time, so the plan is to do a complete drive line rebuild. I know about registering the relationships of all the components when disassemblying it all. Is there any suggestions out there that would be of help? (I understand also that there are two variations possible in the pinion seal arrangement, which require different torque values. I don't know yet which I've got. I read in th FAQ's that you can tell by the diff s/n, but haven't looked for it yet.)

Thanks BB.
