1990 760T Check Engine Light 700 1990

Hi;

15 minutes into my commute to work 2 days ago my car died as the check engine light came on. I pulled over, started it up, and finished my trip with the light on. The engine light remained on during my return trip from work as well, but no problems. I used my car yesterday with no problems and the engine light not showing. My mechanically-inclined neighbor thinks it's probably the coil deteriorating, but I'd appreciate any advice/help from anyone here before taking it in.

Thanks in advance,
Scott (not mechanically inclined)
