Stud extractors are great! 164 Manifold stud questions: 140-160

I bought a set of stud extractors a while ago. These things
are fantastic! I managed to pull out the studs from a rusted
up 164 carb manifold with complete ease, including those studs
on the exaust downpipe.

Can I just get studs from the auto parts store of the correct
size or will I need more special studs / bolts to tolerate the
high temperatures and such? What is it that causes the manifold
studs on 164s to break?

I pulled out the secondary butterflies; I plan on plugging
the holes with epoxy. Also, should I do anything special to
seal the cover plate for the heating chamber in the balance
pipe? I think I've got a gasket for this in my 164 B30A gasket
set.

Should I bother to get my manifold magnifluxed? I've actually
got 2 spares.

How much stud needs to be sticking out for a stud extractor
to pull out the stud?
chris
