ABS brakes and the speedo 700

i had an experience with my 740 gle sedan tonite that never happened before. the anti lock light came on while driving and the speedo started to jump around like crazy, so i pulled over and turned off the and turned it back on and it was fine. then after driving it a half of a mile or so it did it again and it repeated a few times until i got home. but between the last time i had to restart and home i never turned on. why is that? can it be the sensors?
