Of course the @#$#@%'s had to break one that's hard to replace. Idiots. Anyway you'll probably be happier if you simply pay a window shop to install it. Clean up your new glass well with solvent. The black adhesive is quite difficult to remove so that you get a clean surface. I'm not sure what's going to be the best to clean that up with, but try: WD40 (or 3-36), isopropyl alcohol, or acetone. If all else fails I know Goo-Gone will get it off, but that comes in very small containers, so you might need a lot of it.
For the part on the car, you may get the best results if you heat it up first with a hairdryer, or even by running the heat for a while so the whole car warms up. When it's cold the adhesive (butyl tape) is like a rock. At warmer temps it turns into putty, then gum-like, and at real warm temps it's just very sticky. To get all the broken glass out, you will need to soften it up some. The more of this prep work you do, the less the install should cost you.
It's an unusual job for a window shop, they obviously do windshields mostly, so they're just going to have to rate it by the time it takes.
Well, be glad that they didn't smash the back window. You can't get those out with any success, and new ones are $700.
